Located in the mountains of the Controviesa, in the south-west of Spain, between the sea and Granada, Barranco Oscuro has vineyards (mostly on a free-standing foot) located at an “Eroic” altitude, over 1300 meters above sea level, less than 50 km away from the Mediterranean sea.
Cerro las Monjas 1368 is a blend of garnacha, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot cultivated according to the natural dictates, vinified following the spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and macerated on the skins. The wine ages 18 months barriques before being bottled without the addition of sulphites.
This ruby color with garnet reflections 2010 vintage has a nose focused on ripe red fruit to which are counterbalanced balsamic and empyrrheumatic hints due to the small wood aging. The sip shows an unexpected and frankly pleasing freshness: the ripe and juicy fruit is balanced by a bit of perfectly incorporated volatile acidity which directs the closure towards a final with savory and iodine brushstrokes.
