Sant’Andrea winery history begins in 1880 when the ancestor Andrea Pandolfo I departed from Pantelleria and exported to Khanguet Gare, in Tunisia, the grapes cultivation. The Pandolfo winery made a fortune exporting its wines to France, while the estate passed from Andrea I to his son Giovanni and, later, to his nephew Andrea II. Unfortunately, in 1964, the Tunisian president decided to expropriate all foreign assets and properties, and Andrea II with his wife Elena returned to Italy and began to raise vines on the southern Lazio coast, in Terracina. The small craft reality gave its first fruits in 1968 while the cellar still passes from the hand of Andrea II to his son Gabriele, who currently runs it with his wife Enza and his son Andrea III.
Today the winery owes 70 hectares of land splitted in 3 vineyards: the Terracina one (15 hectares), the Aprilia one (20 hectares) and the Borgo Vodice one (35 hectares). This Moscato di Terracina Secco DOC “Hum” comes from the south-southwest facing karstic originated Terracina vineyard (inside Campo Soriano Monumental Park), rich in red clays and iron oxide, at an altitude between 350 and 450 meters. Its grapes grow lulled by the sea breeze until the harvesting which is run in 3 different times: 25% is picked up a little early on ripening, 50% when completely ripe and the ending 25% overripe. Once in the cellar, the de-stemmed grapes from the three harvest cold macerate and then are soft crushed and fermented separately, with the indigenous yeasts. Once united the wines rest for one month, are racked and age on fine lees with frequent batonnage, then are bottled and refined another 6 months before being commercialised.
This dense straw-yellow with golden hues 2015 vintage smells as a Moscato should smell (being an aromatic grape), with a lot of ripe yellow fruit, peach in syrup, candied apricot, camomille, dried rose and some balsamic, mineral and iodine brushstrokes. The mouthfeel is soft and savory with a shining and intriguing sour path which thirst and entice to drink it again and again.
