Le Vigne di Zamò is an historic winery in Colli Orientali del Friuli which began to take its first steps in the world of wine in 1978, with the purchase of 5 hectares of vineyards on the hill of Rocca Bernarda, by Tullio Zamò. Currently the winery, managed by Tullio’s sons, Pierluigi and Silvano Zamò, boasts vineyards in areas with a very high wine making vocation: in addition to Rocca Bernarda (in which the hectares have passed from 5 to 10) there are others 5 hectares in Buttrio and 15 in Rosazzo.
Since 2010 the winery has been taken over by Eataly’s funambolic owner Oscar Farinetti who, with his intuition and his communication skills, has helped to make the brand known and expand. Despite this, Le Vigne di Zamò remains a family and artisan company, which still assists the vineyards according to the principles of maximum respect for the ecosystem, environment and nature, and, in the process of winemaking, aging and refining, uses a mix of innovative technologies and respect for local traditions.
The Pinot Grigio “Ramato” (Coppered) has always been a Colli Orientali del Friuli protagonist, and the winery produces a version of it, result of the contact, during maceration, of the must with pinot grigio coloured skins. This first phase is followed by soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, at controlled temperature, followed by 8 months of aging sur-lies, before bottling and marketing.
This 2018 copper vintage initially smells of pineapple, mango and iris and then opens up to notes of pink grapefruit, yeast and a hint of vanilla. The mouthfeel is endowed with an almost sweet glyceric softness that is balanced by a nice freshness, while the sapidity takes over the finish to clean the palate.
