Domaine Arnoux-Lachaux, formerly Domaine Robert Arnoux, founded in 1858, is currently held by Pascal Lachaux and his wife Florence Arnoux (married in 1987) since 1984. In October 2011, after wine school, Charles Lachaux joined his father at the Domain and since the 2012 vintage he is in charge of vinification of the grapes lying on 14.5 hectares in 15 different appellations, all close to Vosne Romanèe Area.
Charles, representing the sixth generation, shows a crucial focus on the wine-growing process, as he learned by Madame Bize-Leroy herself. The cellar techniques are the logical extension of the wine-growing ones: whole bunches fermentation and, after 12 days of elevage, 18 months of aging in 228 litres casks, 30% of which are new.
The Romanée Saint Vivant parcel of the Domaine, 0,35 hectares cultivated since 1927, lies just below the legendary Romanée-Conti vineyard, and produces no more than 4 or 5 barrels of this precious wine.
Ruby red with garnet reflections, this RSV smells of cherries, cassis, blackberry, red orange, underbrush, dry leaves, licorice, toasted hazelnut with a twist of cinnamon, clove, rusty rock and leather. The mouthfeel is velvety and delicate but also ample and ferrous, with firm tannins and lovely balancing acidity which leads to a long, intense, fruity and fleshy finish.
