There is no doubt that Gaja today is one of the most famous brands of Italian wine in the world. It is enough to recall, by way of explanation, that already in 1985 its Barbaresco DOCG was called “the finest wine ever made in Italy”, and that in 1998 the owner, Angelo Gaja, was awarded by the international wine press as “man of the year”.

Costa d’Amalfi Rosso Riserva Furore 2016, Marisa Cuomo
Sixty kilometres south of Naples, in Campania, stands out on the sea the Furore fjord, a few kilometres from Amalfi, an area of wild beauty portrayed, already in the 18th century, in the watercolours of the painters of the time, which never failed to include in their works a reference to the famous terraced vineyards, real strips of land torn from the sea with difficulty. It was in this strip of land, in 1942, that the Gran Furor Divina Costiera brand was founded, with the intention of officially marketing the wine products of those lands. Mustazzo 2016, Sella e Mosca
In 1899 engineer Erminio Sella and lawyer Edgardo Mosca departed from Piedmont towards the land of Sardinia in order to reclaim a vast territory in the locality i Piani, near Alghero, in the province of Sassari, and transform it from pasture to vineyard. Since then those lands have made the history of Sardinian viticulture and, although the property has passed to the Campari Group (in 2002) and, later, to the Moretti family (since 2016), the search for quality has never failed. Pinot Nero Riserva Vigna Ganger 2016, Cantina Girlan
The history of Girlan winery began in 1923 with 23 winegrowers who, at the urging of the founder and first president Johann Kofler Krautschneider, established its headquarters in a 16th century farm. The first real turning point of the winery occurred in 1961, when it was produced a selection of Schiava that took its name from the number of casks in which it was aged: Fass (=cask) Nr.9. Bourgogne Rouge 2016, Claude Dugat
Not many producers identify themselves with a specific production area as much as the Dugat family has done for about 70 years with the municipality of Gevrey-Chambertin. This small family domaine, in fact, continues to devote itself exclusively to its six hectares of vineyard (3 owned and 3 rented, but with full control over their management) despite the fame of wines creates a market demand far greater than the number of bottles produced. Dedicato a Walter 2016, Poggio al Tesoro
Historical sources report that the Allegrini family played a prominent role among the rich landowners of Valpolicella already in the 16th century, a role that led them to become among the most famous wine producers of that area. Among the leading figures of this family, a special mention, also for the purposes of our history, goes to Walter Allegrini, who joined the company in 1983 as head of viticulture. Carmignano Terre a Mano 2016, Fattoria di Bacchereto
According to the available historical sources, it would seem that the history of the area of Carmignano has its roots in the Early Middle Ages, with documents attesting to its agricultural vocation dating back to 804 BC. Certainly, in the eighteenth century, these lands were renowned for their wine production, so much so that Cosimo III de’ Medici, with his 1716 ban, regulated their production legally, including them among the most suitable Tuscany areas. Cabernet Franc Duemani 2016, DueMani
If the area of the southern Tuscan Coast has its own wine history based on indigenous vines, such as Sangiovese and Ciliegiolo, and the central one is firmly guarded by the wines of Bolgheri, to the north it is difficult to identify an equally developed productive tradition. For this reason it is even more surprising the incredible positioning work that the Duemani farm has been able to do in just twenty years of history. Kirchenstück G.C. 2016, Weingut Dr. Bürklin-Wolf
When you are about to tell the wine history of Palatinate, the famous central German land, you can not help but mention the history of the Bürklin-Wolf winery.
