Four students of enology, Jose Angel Martinez, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos and Roberto Santana, joined in 2005 and created, at the end of their studies, a wine consultancy firm. Animated by the search for a true and sustainable wine, the four friends, in 2008, established the Envinate winery in order to obtain natural and clean wines from small plots in Ribeira Sacra (Galicia), Almansa (a region in the south east of the Iberian peninsula) and Tenerife. Envinate project is based on three cornerstones: respect for the specificity of the land, respect for the character of each vintage and respect for the soul of their wines in order to tell sincerely the lives of many people (from the last of farmers to the oenologist) who are involved in the winemaking process.
From Tenerife, in the north-east of the island (Taganana), from the small vineyard Margalagua on volcanic soil, was born this Tinto Taganan parcela Margalagua from vines over 100 years old of Malvasia Nera, Listan Negro, Vijariego and Negramoli. This wine is fermented with autochthonous yeasts, 30% without crushing in open cement tanks, the remaining pressed, and then aged both for about 8 months in old French oak barrels of 225/500 liters before being bottled without filtration or clarification.
This 2018 pale ruby red vintage smells of fresh cherry, pomegranate, violet and geranium with mineral, ferrous and iodine brushstrokes. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied, very elegant and delicate with graphite and vinyl returns combined with an evident mineral side of volcanic origin, and an iodine finish.
